HHICC Resource Center Workstation Basics
November 30,2006
The HHICC Computer Resource Center public workstations have been reconfigured to provide a “Standardized” and uniform computing environment. This document will provide some of the underlying concepts for utilizing the workstations effectively.
- The Resource Center LAN is operating in the Windows Workgroup “HHICCINT”. All network activities are preformed within this workgroup. This is to distinguish the “Ad-Hoc” connections that may occur from time to time with member computers attaching to the network.
- Every workstation has a Network Shared folder named “GeneralUserStorageWSxx” where “xx” is the workstation ID. This folder is shared on the network for general read/write access. This is where users should create a directory as their own name and store whatever they want under the directory.
- All workstations shared storage may be access from any workstation by browsing MStart/Network Places.
- Roxio Easy Media Creator 9.0 is installed on all machines. This product should be used to create CD/DVD disks as required. This product contains many additional capabilities and provides much better CD/DVD management. To create a CD/DVD from the users files stored in the above directory, click on the following item: Start/All Programs/Roxio Easy Media Creator 9/Data/Creator Classic.
- The HHICCWSMC (Media Center Workstation) is acting as a common file server, it should be turned on if any other workstation is in use.
- The HHICCWSMC workstation has a few special directories for club use as follows:
- HHICC Software (Read Only) – Common depository of software products
- HHICC Software CDImage (Read Only) – Common depository of software CD images
- HHICC Club Data – Common depository for club information
- General access usernames are created in the following format
- UserWSxx where “xx” is the workstation ID
- The password is the same (case sensitive)
- Installation of other programs, cd’s and software should not be allowed as it has a high possibility of disrupting the installed software configuration.
